Ice Cube rapped No helicopter lookin’ for a murder / Two in the mornin’, got the Fatburger / Even saw the lights of the Goodyear Blimp / And it read, Ice Cube’s a Pimp.” Jody from Baby Boy asked his mom to bring him a Fatburger, “with a little cheese” when she returned from her date. These pop cultural references may not have been possible without entrepreneur Lovie Yancey.
In 1942 Yancey, with her partner Charles Simpson, opened the first “Mr.Fatburger” on Western Ave in Los Angeles. After parting ways with your partner in 1952, the determined businesswoman dropped the “Mr.” and as they say, the rest is history.
Lovie Yancey was able to take a three stool hamburger stand and by working 18 hour days, turned Fatburger into a successful restaurant with over 200 thriving chains all over the world.
